Full Product Description

Derived from ‘William’, in turn stemming from the Germanic ‘Wilhelm’ that in part denotes ‘fierce determination in battle, ‘Wilson’ is of truly warlike roots.
This is apt in view of the fact that, through their relationship with both Clan Gunn and Clan Innes, early bearers were frequently engaged in vicious clan warfare, while others paid the ultimate price in defence of their religious beliefs.
In more peaceful times, the Wilson family of Bannockburn was responsible for the compilation of the earliest surviving list of tartans, Scots-born Alexander Wilson went on to become known as ‘The Father of American Ornithology’ and, in politics, Woodrow Wilson served two terms as American President and Harold Wilson three terms as British Labour Party Prime Minister.
Their proud tale is recorded here.
