Full Product Description

With the proud and defiant motto of “Though abased, I rise again”, bearers of the Cooper name – in all its rather bewildering variety of spelling variations that include ‘Coupar’, ‘Cupar’ and ‘Couper’ – have been present in the frequently turbulent historical record of Scotland from earliest times.

In the form of ‘Couper’, later changed to ‘Cooper’, one branch of the family became owners in the seventeenth century of the Gogar estate in Edinburgh, now part of modern-day Edinburgh, while a century earlier William Couper, Bishop of Galloway, was embroiled from 1639 to 1640 in the bitter and bloody Bishops Wars between Scotland and England.

Chronicled here is the colourful and dramatic saga of the Coopers of both yesteryear and today.
