Full Product Description

Although an occupational surname, bearers of the Cook name have gained distinction through a colourful range of pursuits far removed from the trade that originally gave them the name.
As kinsfolk of a proud West Highland clan, they were stalwart in their support of the cause of the Royal House of Stuart, while others paid the ultimate price in defence of their religious freedom.
One particularly intrepid bearer of the name was the English sea captain, navigator, cartographer and explorer James Cook.

In 1766, in command of Endeavour, he made the first of three Pacific voyages that resulted in the first recorded circumnavigation of New Zealand and the first European contact with Australia’s eastern coastline and the Hawaiian Islands.

It was on his third Pacific voyage, in command of Resolution that, in 1779,
he was killed by Hawaiian islanders.

The stirring and inspiring tale of the Cooks is related here.
